Furnace Cleaning in La Mesa, CA

What furnace cleaning actually involves

Power goes off at the service switch first. Gas gets shut at the valve. Then the burner compartment door comes off. The blower sled slides out on its rails. Each blower wheel blade is cleaned individually, because packed dust on one side throws the wheel out of balance and the bearings whine. Burners come out for brushing. Flame sensor gets scuffed with abrasive cloth, not sandpaper. Heat exchanger surfaces are vacuumed and inspected with a mirror and light.

Most furnaces here sit in a hallway closet or garage. Some sit on an attic platform. Attic units collect the worst of it. Insulation fiber and attic dust get pulled in through disconnected boots at register take-offs, then land on the blower. Older homes still run 1950s–60s galvanized trunk-and-branch, and gray flex from the 70s–90s sheds inner liner into the return.

In east-side neighborhoods we open compartments and find rodent droppings and nest material. That changes the job. Nesting in a burner box is a combustion issue, not just a dirty one.

A cleaning will not fix a cracked heat exchanger or a collapsed attic flex run. It won't fix a plenum sweating through marine-layer mornings. We say so when we see it. Three to five years is a normal interval, sooner after wildfire smoke or with pets.
