Duct Sealing in La Mesa, CA

Duct sealing in La Mesa homes

The back bedroom never cools. The hallway register blows hard, the far one barely moves air. Your system runs long cycles and the house still feels uneven. That pattern usually means leakage, not a weak condenser. Conditioned air is escaping before it reaches the room. In La Mesa the common culprit is a boot that has pulled loose at the register take-off, dumping cold air straight into the attic.

Duct work here is not uniform. Original 1950s–60s galvanized trunk-and-branch runs through attics and under raised floors. Those joints were often held with cloth tape that dried and let go decades ago. Gray and silver flex from the 1970s–90s has inner liners that crack and shed. Newer builds have R-6 or R-8 insulated flex, which leaks mostly at collars and poorly cinched draw bands.

Sealing means mastic and mechanical fasteners at the connection, not tape over a gap. Collapsed or kinked flex gets re-supported or replaced, because sealing a crushed run fixes nothing. Pre-1960 plenums sometimes carry asbestos-era paper and tar wrap. That gets handled, not disturbed.

Rodent-damaged runs in east-side crawlspaces and attics are a replacement conversation, not a sealing one. Honest answer up front beats patching bad duct.
